Promoting technical and vocational education and training (TVET) for youth and adults

UNESCO connects education to the fast-evolving world of work through its promotion of skills for work and life. Technical and vocational education and training (TVET) helps youth and adults develop the abilities, knowledge, values and attitudes they need to find decent work and contribute to building a peaceful, healthy, just and sustainable world. Worldwide 267 million young people aged 15-24 are still not in any form of employment, education or training. TVET contributes to the targets of Sustainable Development Goal 4 (SDG4) to 'ensure inclusive and equitable quality education and promote lifelong learning opportunities for all’ and those of SDG8 for 'decent work and economic growth'.

Transforming technical and vocational education and training for successful and just transitions

With its Strategy for Technical and Vocational Education and Training 2022-2029, UNESCO aims at promoting skills development for empowerment and employability, and facilitating the transition to digital and green economies and sustainable societies.

UNESCO supports Member States to respond to current and future challenges in TVET.

Promoting skills for work and life: UNESCO-UNEVOC's action

The UNESCO-UNEVOC International Centre for Technical and Vocational Education and Training (TVET) supports Member States in strengthening and upgrading their TVET systems, and – through its capacity development programmes, workshops and global UNEVOC Network – advocates for quality TVET that is accessible to all.
